[Saba Sports News] The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the T20I and Test squads for the Afghanistan series and the first two matches for the upcoming England assignment respectively.
While the Test squad will most probably be on the expected lines, India’s line-up for the T20Is will raise a few eyebrows in any case.
Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have not played a T20I since the last year’s World Cup, have their future in the format up in the air.
As per various reports, the duo is keen to play the T20 World Cup 2024 and a call on their selection is expected when the national selectors meet to pick the squad for the Afghanistan series.
Moreover, there are also doubts on Hardik Pandya’s availability. He got ruled midway through the ODI World Cup 2023 due to an ankle injury.
Suryakumar Yadav, who led the side in Pandya’s absence in Australia and South Africa T20Is, has also hurt his ankle and is ruled out of the action atleast till early February. If Pandya is yet to recover from the injury, it will be interesting to see who will be named the captain.
The three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan will start on January 11 in Mohali.
