[Saba Sports News] According to Italian media reports, clashes occurred between fans of the two teams and the police before the Rome Derby, resulting in 13 police officers being injured. In the 32nd round of Serie A, Lazio drew 1-1 with as Roma at home. However, before this Derby match, fans of both teams clashed with local police. To prevent fan brawls, the local police designated different gathering areas for Lazio and Roma fans. But first, about 300 Roma fans attempted to enter the gathering area of Lazio fans, followed by Lazio’s extreme fans who also tried to break through the buffer zone to enter the Roma fans’ gathering area. However, the extreme fans immediately began throwing various debris and firecrackers at the police, who responded with water cannons. Additionally, in the Lungotevere area in front of the Obelisk, a group of Roma’s extreme fans also clashed with the police. To ensure the safety of this Derby match, the Roman police deployed more than 2,000 officers. A total of 13 police officers were injured in the clashes with the fans that day. Interior Minister Matteo Piantedo stated: “In the face of this unacceptable violence, the police continue to work with calm professionalism, ensuring the safety of the local community under very difficult conditions. The government expresses its gratitude and full support for them.”
