[Saba Sports News] Major changes seem imminent for the Cleveland Cavaliers. On Wednesday, the Cavs were eliminated from the playoffs after a Game 5 loss to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Without Donovan Mitchell for the second straight game, Cleveland fell 113-98 at TD Garden in Boston.
Mitchell’s future with the team has been uncertain, with rumors of him seeking a trade despite having a year left on his contract. Additionally, his backcourt partner Darius Garland might be reconsidering his future with the Cavs. According to a report by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Joe Vardon, and Jason Lloyd, Garland’s representatives might discuss a potential trade if Mitchell signs an extension.
Garland, represented by Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul, has had a questionable fit with Mitchell since the team traded for the former Utah Jazz star two seasons ago. Garland’s usage rate and production have declined since his All-Star season in 2022, where he averaged 21.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 8.6 assists on 46.2% shooting and 38.3% from three. His numbers have dropped in each category this season.
The Cavaliers may also consider a coaching shakeup after another early postseason exit.
