[Saba Sports News] India pacer Jasprit Bumrah expressed on the shock factor in cricket as 23 wickets fell on Day 1 of the Cape Town Test.
South Africa opted to bat first after winning the toss. Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc with the ball, bagging a six-wicket haul as the Proteas were shot down at a paltry score of 55 in the first innings.
India were 153/4 at one stage, aiming to extend their 98-run lead even further. However, in a never-seen-before, the hosts lost their remaining six wickets without scoring a single run.
Three more wickets fell in the day’s play with South Africa finishing at 62/3 at stumps.
“Cricket is always surprising. We didn’t expect that 23 wickets will fall on the opening day. But it’s exciting because you get something from the wicket if you hit the right line and length. An exciting day awaits us,” Bumrah said as quoted on Star Sports.
The fast-bowler further talked about the importance of consistency while also emphasising the need of partnerships in bowling.
“We have a lot of belief in our group of bowlers. But there are a lot of new guys coming. So, we spoke about consistency and bowling in partnerships. Just like batting, there are partnerships in bowling and if you build pressure from one end, you will get wickets from the other.
“We were happy that we were able to do it in this match. Actually, I started from the other end. But there is not too much movement and I feel the bowlers are feeling more comfortable while bowling from this end,” Bumrah concluded.
