[Saba Sports News] Every basketball player dreams of having a statue in their honor someday. Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard recently had a statue built for him—but it’s not the kind of sculpture he likely imagined as a kid.
Lillard played all four college seasons at Weber State in Ogden, Utah. On Monday, the Ogden City Council, in partnership with Weber State, unveiled a horse statue to honor Lillard. The statue features Lillard’s face and the Weber State Wildcats logo.
The horse statue wasn’t chosen at random; it’s part of the “Trail to Pioneer Days” horse project, one of the largest public art initiatives in Utah. These life-sized sculptures decorate the path leading up to Ogden Pioneer Stadium.
Lillard was a standout player at Weber State, averaging 24.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game in his senior year. He was drafted 6th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2012 NBA Draft.
While Lillard may eventually have a statue at the Moda Center in Portland, for now, he’s got his unique horse statue in Ogden.
