[Saba Sports News] Darvin Ham, who was fired as the Los Angeles Lakers head coach last month, has returned to one of his previous roles.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Ham has agreed to become the top assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks under Doc Rivers. Despite interest from several NBA teams, Ham chose to return to Milwaukee, seeking a familiar environment and the opportunity to compete in the Eastern Conference.
Before his stint with the Lakers, Ham was an assistant coach under Mike Budenholzer with the Bucks for four seasons, including their 2021 championship run. His contributions during that period were instrumental in securing his position with the Lakers.
The Bucks made headlines when they fired Adrian Griffin midway through his first season and brought in Rivers. Despite struggling in the latter half of the season and an early playoff exit against the Indiana Pacers, partly due to injuries to Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, Rivers retained his position for the next season. Now, he will have Ham’s support on his coaching staff.
Rivers had been looking to add another high-profile assistant, but it remains to be seen if that search will continue with Ham’s addition.
