One of the significant changes under consideration is
a potential change to the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL),
along with the formation of a new Governing Council for the Women’s Premier
League (WPL). A number of important decisions are anticipated to be made during
the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India
(BCCI).
The IPL Governing Council may be changed, and Pragyan
Ojha, who now serves in that capacity, may be replaced by a player
representative. According to sources, the 37-year-old former Indian spinner is
thinking about resigning on his own will.
Ojha has been a member of the council for three years,
but the Indian Cricketers’ Association (CA) only chose him for the position
last year. Although he might continue on for a few more years or perhaps
longer, it doesn’t seem like the former Hyderabad spinner wants to.
Despite the agenda item’s relatively general
character, Cricbuzz has learned that Ojha would resign, prompting a new
election by the ICA to choose a new delegate to the Governing Council.
The BCCI created the WPL last year, and it’s possible
that a Governing Council will be established for it as well.
The agenda for the September 25 meeting also includes
the item which states, “Election and induction of 2 (two) representatives
of the General Body in the Governing Council of the IPL.” However, it is
expected that the current members, Arun Singh Dhumal from the Himachal Pradesh
Cricket Association (HPCA) and Avishek Dalmiya from the Cricket Association of
Bengal (CAB), will continue their roles.
The nomination of the Ombudsman and Ethics Officer is
also on the agenda, but the assessment of the men’s selection committee may be
the most important issue. It has been suggested that the committee might be
reconstituted by December with a few modifications, and that a decision on this
topic might be made at the general body meeting. It’s important to note that
Ajit Agarkar will continue to serve as chairman.
