[Saba Sports News] Sky Germany has broken the news that negotiations between the German Football Association (DFB) and Jürgen Klopp over appointing him to rescue the national team have entered a critical phase. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke plan to hold further talks with Klopp in New York this week. Since both sides are eager to seal the deal, all parties remain optimistic about Klopp taking the reins.
While contractual issues between Klopp and Red Bull Group are yet to be sorted out, his backroom staff for the Germany job is already taking shape. Reports claim Klopp personally called Rudi Völler to urge him to stay on as the national team’s sporting director. Pepijn Lijnders, who assisted Klopp in Liverpool’s glorious revival, is also expected to join his coaching team once again.
Germany have suffered successive premature World Cup exits. Neither Hans-Dieter Flick nor Julian Nagelsmann managed to reverse the team’s downward spiral. Fans have mocked the four-time World Cup winners, saying the once indomitable German machine has devolved into a “toddler bus”. Watzke stressed Klopp is the DFB’s top target, yet refused to declare the deal a done deal for caution’s sake, putting the likelihood of a formal agreement at “over 50 percent”.
In my view, the DFB’s pursuit of Jürgen Klopp is a rational decision grounded in his native German identity, tactical compatibility and overwhelming public support. The association hopes to rebuild Germany’s mental core and tactical framework through his signature heavy-metal football philosophy. Nevertheless, potential hurdles lie ahead: fragmented national team training schedules and questions over the long-term sustainability of a high-age head coach.
