[Saba Sports News] Recently, the German Football League announced that starting from the 2025/26 season, the DFL Super Cup will be named after Franz Beckenbauer. The annual German Super Cup, contested between the Bundesliga champion and the DFB winner, will now be called the “Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup.” Relevant designs and logos for the event, as well as accompanying programs for the match, will be adjusted as necessary. In this way, the German Football Association and the German Football League jointly honor Beckenbauer’s contributions to German football. Franz Beckenbauer’s widow, Heidi Beckenbauer, stated: “Franz would love that the match between the Bundesliga champion and the DFB Cup champion is named after him, especially since he himself has won both titles multiple times. I also want to personally thank Bernd Neuendorf and Hans-Joachim Watzke for their good communication and for honoring Franz.” The DFL Super Cup is organized by the German Football League, and since 2010, the annual Super Cup champion has been awarded a specially made trophy. Next year, the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup will be held on August 16.
