[Saba Sports News] Donte DiVincenzo’s preseason return to Madison Square Garden against his former team, the New York Knicks, was anything but friendly.
During the Timberwolves’ game against the Knicks, DiVincenzo hit a floater and seemed to yell towards the Knicks’ bench, saying, “Alright, yeah. That’s what happens when they let you run the show.” While some speculated he was calling out former coach Tom Thibodeau, DiVincenzo clarified that wasn’t the case.
Later, DiVincenzo appeared to exchange heated words with Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson, Jalen Brunson’s father, after the 115-110 Knicks victory.
The two had to be separated following the intense post-game moment. DiVincenzo finished with 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting and added 7 assists.
The Knicks traded DiVincenzo to the Timberwolves in a deal bringing Karl-Anthony Towns to New York, shortly after they acquired Mikal Bridges, reuniting a core group of Villanova alumni. Despite rumors of DiVincenzo’s frustration before the trade, he recently disputed such claims.
In contrast, Towns seemed more upbeat about the move after the game, showing a lighter mood compared to DiVincenzo’s tension-filled evening.
