[Saba Sports News] In a recent appearance on the ‘Club 520 Podcast,’ Warriors star Draymond Green shared his latest thoughts on the NBA post-season. The 4x champion explained that he’d prefer an extended offseason over making the playoffs only to exit in the first or second round.
“After winning four championships, losing in the first or second round isn’t worth it to me. I’d rather enjoy my summer than waste time in the playoffs without a real chance. We’re focused on winning championships, not just making the playoffs—that’s some Indiana Pacers talk.” At 34, Green remains a crucial part of the Warriors’ championship legacy, but recent seasons of subpar performance have been challenging.
For most teams and players, making the playoffs is a significant achievement, offering a shot at the championship. However, Green distinguishes between a playoff team and a true championship contender. With four titles under his belt, he isn’t satisfied with merely winning a series or two.
Ironically, Green’s preference came true last season when the Warriors finished 10th in the West and lost the play-in game, missing the playoffs entirely. Green would rather skip the early playoff exits.
Looking ahead, Green’s career faces uncertainty. With Klay Thompson gone, the Warriors must fill a major backcourt void. Despite Green’s solid performance last season, his emotional volatility could further destabilize the team.
With variables like Stephen Curry’s health, the Warriors’ future remains uncertain, but they will continue fighting for championships and competitiveness in the Western Conference.
