[Saba Sports News] As a 4-time NBA champion, Draymond Green understands the demands of winning at the highest level. So after Jayson Tatum secured his first championship on Monday, Draymond called to share the moment and get Tatum’s thoughts on the experience.
“I called him yesterday, and he was smiling from ear to ear, holding the trophy,” Green said. “He told me, ‘I don’t know what I thought this would feel like, but it’s way better.’ Winning a championship is already an incredible feeling, and it surpassed his expectations. I called to congratulate him and to feel that energy because I know what it’s like. When you’re around someone who just won a championship, their energy is at an all-time high.”
Tatum, 26, is fresh off his first championship run after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals. While he wasn’t named Finals MVP—that honor went to his teammate Jaylen Brown—Tatum played a crucial role in the Celtics’ 16-3 record throughout the playoffs.
With the championship parade scheduled for later this week, Tatum and the Celtics are taking the time to enjoy and savor their victory. As a 4-time champion, Draymond knows well the joy of such a moment.
A key figure in a dynasty alongside 2-time MVP Stephen Curry, Green has experienced more success than most players. However, the Warriors’ glory days seem to be behind them. They finished 10th in the West this past season and didn’t make it past the play-in tournament. Klay Thompson is struggling and considering leaving, Stephen Curry is in decline, and Draymond himself has been battling to control his temper.
For a team that’s lost its way, seeing Tatum’s championship glow might be just what Draymond needs to regain his form and help lift his team out of the slump.
