[Saba Sports News] India is set to host the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup from October 5 to November 19, with the opening match between 2019 World Cup finalists New Zealand and England at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
The tournament will take place across ten venues in India. The iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata is among five venues chosen for renovation and will host four World Cup matches, including the high-stakes semi-final 2 on November 16. Notable fixtures at Eden Gardens include Netherlands vs. Bangladesh, Pakistan vs. Bangladesh, India vs. South Africa, and England vs. Pakistan.
India’s campaign begins against five-time champions Australia at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 8, while the much-anticipated India vs. Pakistan match will be played on October 13 in Ahmedabad.
Before the World Cup, India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series, starting on September 22 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. India’s successful run in the Asia Cup 2023, where they defeated Sri Lanka in the final, has boosted their motivation.
Currently ranked second in ODIs, a series win would make them the top-ranked team heading into the World Cup.
