[Saba Sports News] In the upcoming 2026 World Cup
South American qualifiers, Argentina will face Bolivia at their home ground
located at high altitude. Recently, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez shared a
photo on his personal social media, featuring him and Manchester City forward
Julian Alvarez resting in their room. The photo displayed yerba mate on the
table, leading to speculation that they were consuming mate tea to enhance
their reflexes. It is worth noting that Bolivian’s home stadium is situated at
an intimidating altitude of 3,637 meters, making it one of the highest
elevation stadiums in football. Typically, individuals experience difficulties
in adjusting to high altitudes, often requiring oxygen even during minimal
physical exertion. For players, competing in high-intensity matches at such
altitudes can be particularly challenging. However, there is no scientific
evidence supporting the claim that yerba mate tea can enhance reflexes. It is
more likely to have a psychological effect.
