[Saba Sports News] Team USA faced another tough test Monday in their final showcase game before the Paris Olympics, raising questions about their dominance.
They narrowly defeated Germany 92-88 after another comeback, following a close win over South Sudan on Saturday.
These unconvincing results have sparked concern. ESPN’s Tim Legler predicted on “NBA Today” that Team USA might lose at least once in the Olympics due to other teams being better equipped for team-oriented basketball.
Legler noted that many American players are used to getting numerous shots per game, which makes it difficult to develop the necessary rhythm, sacrifice, and continuity quickly.
He believes Team USA will be challenged multiple times during the tournament and won’t be surprised if they lose. International teams like Australia and those with stars like Victor Wembanyama present a cohesive style that resembles true basketball more than a collection of All-Stars.
Legler’s point is that it’s tough for star players to adapt to supporting roles on a team like Team USA. Close exhibitions might benefit them by highlighting this challenge. LeBron James seems to agree with this assessment.
