[Saba Sports News] Currently, F1 holds six sprint race weekends each year, with the sprint qualifying on Friday and the sprint race on Saturday. This new format, introduced in 2021, has both supporters and critics. However, F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali has no intention of canceling the sprint races. In fact, the Italian is considering expanding the format. Speaking to the media, Domenicali said: “I think we have the potential to expand in two areas, which requires discussions with drivers, teams, and of course the FIA. Can we apply these sprint race weekends to more races? Is this the right way to create a reverse grid opportunity like in F2 and F3? These are all points we need to discuss. I believe we have matured enough to seriously talk about these issues. The voices pushing in this direction are growing, so I am willing to raise and discuss not only increasing the number of sprint races… but also whether there are new formats or ideas.” Domenicali stated outright that canceling the format is not under consideration.
