[Saba Sports News] When F1 drivers gathered in Monaco to watch the premiere of the Brad Pitt starred F1 movie, producer Lewis Hamilton sat nervously in the center of the theater. The seven-time world champion candidly admitted: “I’ve been observing everyone’s reactions, breaking out in a sweat.” However, the absence of reigning champion Max Verstappen cast a shadow over the event, who bluntly stated: “I prefer enjoying private time.” It’s known that this movie, co-produced by Hamilton, was shot during a real F1 race weekend, aiming to present the most authentic racing world. Despite positive feedback from most drivers, Verstappen’s lukewarm attitude sparked heated discussions – he chose to attend an online esports event under the alias “Franz Hermann” on the opening night. According to insiders, Verstappen’s absence was not coincidental, as the four-time world champion has always held reservations about the commercial operations of F1. Previously, Verstappen refused to participate in numerous official promotional activities. Meanwhile, Hamilton hopes this movie will showcase the lesser-known passions and hardships of F1 to the public. In our view, the different choices made by the two reflect two starkly contrasting attitudes among contemporary F1 drivers towards the commercialization of this sport.
