[Saba Sports News] New Zealand is considered a strong contender to win the upcoming ODI World Cup in India, thanks to their experienced players who are familiar with Indian conditions. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) took a unique approach to reveal their 15-member squad for the prestigious event. They released a heartwarming video on the official social media accounts of the Blackcaps, featuring the families of the players making the squad announcements.
Notably, Kane Williamson’s and Trent Boult’s children charmingly revealed their fathers’ names, and the video also showcased Will Young’s mother and Jimmy Neesham’s grandmother.
Additionally, the video featured the wives and girlfriends of some players, earning praise from cricket enthusiasts for this innovative squad unveiling method.
Despite recovering from an injury sustained during the Indian Premier League earlier this year, Kane Williamson has been chosen as the team’s captain, indicating he is nearing full fitness.
This decision comes as a significant relief to fans, as Williamson was previously expected to miss the World Cup. Tom Latham, leading the ODI team in England, has been appointed as Williamson’s deputy. The squad includes an unexpected choice in the form of inexperienced spin-bowling all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, while notable players like Finn Allen, Kyle Jamieson, and Adam Milne missed out on selection.
The ongoing four-match ODI series between England and New Zealand is currently tied at 1-1 after two matches. Following this series, the Kiwis will head to Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series against Shakib Al Hasan’s team in Dhaka.
