[Saba Sports News] New Zealand secured a 21-run victory over Pakistan in the second T20I of their five-match series at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on January 14, taking a 2-0 series lead. The match included a humorous incident when a fan absconded with the ball after Fakhar Zaman hit it out of the stadium in the sixth over of Pakistan’s innings.
Zaman struck a powerful six off Ben Sears, sending the ball over deep backward square leg and out of the stadium, where it was swiftly grabbed by a fan who then ran off. This amusing scene caused laughter among the commentators and necessitated a new ball for the continuation of the game.
Zaman played a pivotal role in stabilizing Pakistan’s innings after early wickets, scoring a rapid 50 from 25 balls, including three fours and five sixes. He was ably partnered by Babar Azam, and together they added 87 runs for the second wicket in 49 balls. Babar scored 66 from 43 deliveries, but his efforts were not enough to lead Pakistan to victory, as they were all out for 173 in 19.3 overs. New Zealand’s bowling was led by Ben Sears, Ish Sodhi, and Tim Southee, each taking two wickets.
Earlier, New Zealand’s Finn Allen starred with a striking 74 off 41 balls, propelling his team past the 130-run mark in 13 overs. Contributions from Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and Mitchell Santner helped New Zealand reach 194/8. Haris Rauf was Pakistan’s standout bowler with figures of 3/38.
Looking ahead, Pakistan aims to bounce back in the third T20I scheduled for January 17 at the University Oval in Dunedin.
