[Saba Sports News] According to English media reports, a large number of Chelsea fans have recently protested against the ticket prices for the Chelsea vs. Benfica home match scheduled for October. The protest stems from Chelsea announcing a price hike just one week before the game, with adult tickets set at £83 and youth tickets at £50, which has caused significant discontent among fans. The primary reason is seen as capitalizing on the high attention surrounding Jose Mourinho’s return to boost single-match revenue. Many fans feel they are being treated as “cash cows,” with loyal supporters being ignored. Against the backdrop of the high cost of living and tight household disposable income in the UK, such pricing is easily interpreted as opportunistic profiteering, rather than considering fan interests. Our editor believes this is a negative development. Using Mourinho’s return to justify price hikes, with soaring costs and cancelled discounts, makes it unaffordable for ordinary families and makes loyal fans feel betrayed. While short-term commercial gains might increase, it could weaken the fan base in the long run, damaging the brand’s image and reputation, ultimately proving to be a shortsighted move.
