[Saba Sports News] Before the start of the 2025 season, the FIA sent an updated set of driver penalty regulations to all F1 teams. Compared to the old regulations, the FIA has tightened penalties for misconduct. From now on, if an F1 driver engages in inappropriate behavior, such as frequently using offensive, insulting, vulgar, disrespectful, or abusive language, they may face points deductions or even suspensions. The new rules have drawn criticism from drivers and media for being overly strict. In response, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem addressed the decision to upgrade misconduct penalties in an interview yesterday. Ben Sulayem stated that during his time in rally racing, there were disciplinary requirements. Discipline is vital for every racer, as drivers are the ambassadors of the sport. We do not want parents to hesitate in allowing their children to participate in this sport due to F1’s negative image. Every racetrack has corresponding rules that drivers must follow and respect local customs. F1 drivers earn millions of dollars a year; they are not children but adults. Their profession endows them with responsibilities to the FIA and the public; they should adhere to rules, reject misconduct, and respect and protect the sport that gives them everything.
