[Saba Sports News] Recently, FIFA announced the merger of the September and October national team match windows to optimize the schedule. FIFA confirmed that starting from the 2026-2027 season, significant changes will be made to the international match calendar. For the first time, the traditional September and October national team match windows will be merged into one, creating an extended 16-day international break from September 21st to October 6th. During this new period, national teams can play up to four official or friendly matches, an increase from the usual two matches per window. This adjustment aims to optimize player travel arrangements and reduce disruption to domestic leagues. As a direct result, the traditional October national team match window will be canceled and replaced by a match window from November 9th to 17th, during which each national team will play two matches. This adjustment will also affect other competitions. For example, the 2026-2027 UEFA Champions League will start earlier, between September 8th and 10th, to accommodate the new international match calendar. This decision by FIFA is part of its long-term strategy to reduce the number of annual national team match windows from five to four, while not affecting key dates such as matches in March, June, and November.
