[Saba Sports News] The 2026 BWF Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Finals will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3. Recently, the BWF announced the list of 16 teams for both the men’s and women’s tournaments participating in this year’s Thomas and Uber Cups, which will compete for the highest honor in world badminton. The seed rankings for the Thomas and Uber Cups are determined based on the total points of the top three men’s and women’s singles and the top two men’s and women’s doubles world rankings as of February 17, 2026. After calculations, the Chinese badminton team is ranked as the top seed in both the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup. Following Germany’s withdrawal from the Thomas Cup, the next highest-ranked team from the same continent, Finland, was invited as a substitute. After France withdrew from the Uber Cup, Spain, originally ranked third, secured the available spot in the European region. Since higher-ranked Scotland and Germany did not accept the replacement invitation, Spain ultimately qualified as a substitute. Thus, all 16 teams for the men’s and women’s tournaments in this edition of the Thomas and Uber Cups have been confirmed. This year, the Thomas and Uber Cups will continue with the traditional tournament format, with 16 teams in each category divided into four groups of four teams competing in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, where the final champion will be determined through a single-elimination format.
The editor believes that the substitutions of Finland and Spain are normal adjustments under the tournament rules. While this has sparked discussions about the levels of competition, it ensures the integrity of the event and reflects the efforts towards the globalization of badminton.
