[Saba Sports News] Recently, Brazilian club Flamengo issued an official statement demanding €1.8 million from Almería, which has been overdue for 590 days, and specifically noted that Cristiano Ronaldo acquired a 25% stake in the club as recently as February this year. In the statement, Flamengo strongly condemned Almería for failing to fulfill its contractual obligations when completing the transfer of player Lazaro in August 2022. The debt has now been outstanding for 590 days, totaling more than €1.8 million, in clear violation of the agreement signed by both parties and international football regulations. Flamengo urged Almería to pay and settle the outstanding amount in accordance with the contract terms, stating that it had been forced to bear over €1.5 million in taxes. FIFA supports Flamengo’s right to full reimbursement, yet Almería has chosen not to fulfill its obligations and remains in default.
The editor believes that Almería has engaged in repeated resistance and used various delaying legal tactics, which clearly violate the principles of good faith, contractual loyalty and integrity. This is not an accidental breach, but a conscious and deliberate delay. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is expected to respond appropriately to such conduct, ensuring compliance with FIFA’s ruling and the fulfillment of promised obligations.
