[Saba Sports News] Joining Ferrari is seen as Lewis Hamilton’s last chance in his career to chase the world championship title. However, after just four races into the new season, doubts are growing over whether he can realize his dream of an eighth world championship. Aldo Costa, a former Mercedes engineer, recently stated publicly that the 41-year-old Hamilton is likely in the natural declining phase of his career, an inevitable process for all racing drivers.
Hamilton’s dominance has waned noticeably ever since F1 entered the ground-effect era in 2022. He ended his 12-year partnership with Mercedes and moved to Ferrari in a bid to contend for another world title late in his career, yet things have not gone as expected. He even failed to secure a single podium finish in last season’s Grand Prix races.
Costa admitted that emotionally, he would love to see Hamilton claim his eighth world championship with Ferrari, but age remains an unavoidable hurdle. He added that every driver will eventually see their form drop, and the team knows best about Hamilton’s true potential and limits.
In my opinion, Costa’s remarks are reasonable concerns rather than a final verdict. Though Hamilton’s pursuit of an eighth title faces severe obstacles, his dream is far from shattered.
