[Saba Sports News] In the recent Test match featuring record-breaking performances and the emergence of fresh talent, ex-Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has called for restraint in the hype surrounding Yashasvi Jaiswal. The 22-year-old left-hander dazzled in the 2nd Test against England in Visakhapatnam, scoring his first Test double-century on the second day.
Gambhir praised Jaiswal’s achievement but cautioned against the Indian tendency to overhype cricketing prodigies. He stressed the importance of allowing young players to develop without excessive pressure, criticizing the media for often inflating their successes and prematurely labeling them as stars. This, he noted, can overwhelm the players, hindering their ability to play freely.
Gambhir said, “I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We often overhype their achievements, which adds unnecessary pressure. Let him grow and enjoy his cricket.”
He also referenced Shubman Gill’s ongoing difficulties as an example of why patience is crucial, suggesting that fans and the media should allow these talents to mature at their own pace.
Despite Jaiswal’s double-century and the struggles faced by Gill, the Test saw India dominate by the end of day two, thanks to Jaiswal’s batting and Jasprit Bumrah’s six-wicket haul.
The duo’s efforts left India in a commanding position, with England struggling to keep pace after an initial stand by their openers. The day ended with England trailing by 143 runs, underscoring India’s strong position in the match.
