[Saba Sports News] Across the NBA, there’s growing skepticism about whether Giannis Antetokounmpo would actually ask out of Milwaukee.
His reputation for loyalty has many questioning if he’ll truly go through with a trade request. While he’s reportedly staying open-minded about his future, there’s a big difference between being open to possibilities and actively pursuing a move. Right now, he’s still in the process of figuring out what he wants.
If Antetokounmpo decides the Bucks are falling behind competitively, he could make a move even after free agency begins — potentially throwing Milwaukee’s offseason plans into disarray. Still, the team is expected to operate as if Giannis will remain.
So far, the most anyone close to the situation has said is that Giannis is keeping an “open mind,” and that still seems to be the case — with no clear resolution in sight.
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Wednesday, ESPN’s Shams Charania said the uncertainty around Antetokounmpo’s future could stretch well beyond the NBA Draft in late June. According to Charania, Giannis is expected to evaluate how the offseason unfolds — both for the Bucks and other contenders — before making any firm decisions, which could leave Milwaukee in limbo through July and August.
“His status won’t be tied to the NBA Draft or free agency,” Charania said. “It’s much more likely this plays out into the later part of the summer, as he watches what happens around the league and with the Bucks. When you’re a star of Giannis’ level, the league moves when you’re ready to move.”
