[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, Erling Haaland has secured a partnership with World Cup sponsor Budweiser, which has sparked controversy across Norway. In the brand’s latest campaign, Haaland features in a commercial wearing a shirt resembling the Norway national team jersey. In a press release, Haaland stated:“At my first World Cup, I will give my all on the pitch. Budweiser’s campaign has deeply moved me, as it perfectly mirrors my mindset as I prepare for the tournament. “The campaign has been rolled out in 40 countries, with Norway excluded, because alcohol advertising is illegal in Norway. Consequently, Haaland’s endorsement has drawn widespread criticism domestically. Several temperance groups have demanded that the Norwegian Football Federation make an official statement and take corresponding action. In response, the Norwegian Football Federation remarked:“Haaland has signed a personal deal with one of FIFA’s largest World Cup sponsors, and he is fully entitled to do so.”
The editor believes that the Norwegian Football Federation has guidelines for players’ conduct during their national team duties, yet players are allowed to take part in global marketing campaigns launched by FIFA World Cup sponsors.
