[Saba Sports News] It looked like Mitchell Robinson was blindsided by a phantom gust of wind Wednesday night.
The New York Knicks center delivered one of the most baffling moments of the season during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.
Late in the fourth quarter, Robinson stepped to the free-throw line and launched a shot that missed everything — an airball for the ages. The form, trajectory, and accuracy were all completely off, as if every shooting attribute had been dialed down to zero.
Boston has made a point of sending Robinson to the line in this series, employing a “Hack-A-Robinson” approach to exploit his poor free-throw shooting. The 7-footer, a career 52.5% shooter from the stripe, has hit just 27.3% of his free throws so far in the series — making the Celtics’ strategy a logical one.
Still, despite the embarrassing miss, Robinson and the Knicks had the last laugh. He tallied eight points, six rebounds, and three steals with a game-high +19 in just 22 minutes off the bench, helping New York erase a 20-point second-half deficit.
The Knicks pulled off a stunning comeback to take Game 2 and both road wins in Boston. The series now shifts to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 on Saturday.
