[Saba Sports News] The 2024 F1 season marks the 30th anniversary of Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna’s tragic accident at the Imola San Marino Grand Prix, one of the most significant moments in F1 history. This year, F1 teams have paid tribute to Senna multiple times. In May, during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix held at Imola, four-time F1 world champion Sebastian Vettel drove Senna’s 1993 McLaren car to participate in the race, and F1 drivers were encouraged to wear Senna-themed T-shirts under their helmets. Last week, British driver Lewis Hamilton became the latest F1 figure to pay tribute to Senna at the Brazilian Grand Prix. After the sprint race and qualifying at Interlagos, Hamilton demonstrated driving the McLaren MP4/5B car, which was the car Senna used to win the F1 World Championship in 1990. Since making his F1 debut with McLaren at the start of the 2007 season, Hamilton has never hidden his admiration for Senna. In 2014, Hamilton described this F1 idol as a “true hero” in a BBC column. Records show that Hamilton has won at Interlagos in 2016, 2018, and 2021. After each victory, he always pays tribute to Senna in a special way.
