[Saba Sports News] Harshit Rana made his mark on the cricketing stage for two distinct reasons. Firstly, he garnered praise for his pivotal role in securing a thrilling victory for the Kolkata Knight Riders against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their inaugural match of the Indian Premier League 2024. Despite formidable hitters like Heinrich Klaasen and Shahbaz Ahmed, along with the renowned Mitchell Starc, Rana successfully defended 13 runs in the final over, clinching victory for KKR by a narrow margin of just four runs.
However, Rana’s on-field conduct also drew significant attention the following day. While it’s common for fast bowlers to exhibit intensity during their deliveries, Rana’s actions crossed a line. After dismissing SRH’s opener Mayank Agarwal, Rana approached him and made a provocative gesture by blowing a flying kiss. This incident sparked widespread discussion, with even cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar criticizing Rana’s behavior. Consequently, Rana was fined 60 percent of his match fee.
Rana’s journey with KKR began in 2022 when then-captain Nitish Rana recommended him to Abhishek Nayar during trials, following an injury to Rasikh Salam. Despite previously serving as a net bowler for the Gujarat Titans in 2022, Rana seized this opportunity to join KKR’s squad.
Hailing from Delhi, Rana boasts a commendable record in domestic cricket. With seven first-class appearances, he has secured 28 wickets, including a standout performance of 7 for 45. In List A matches, he has claimed 22 wickets across 14 games, with his best figures being four for 17 runs. Additionally, the 22-year-old has represented Delhi’s under-19 team and North Zone during his promising career thus far.
