[Saba Sports News] England red-ball coach Brendon McCullum informed that captain Ben Stokes is on track to play the first Test of the upcoming five-match series against India, starting January 25 in Hyderabad.
Stokes underwent a left-knee surgery after the ODI World Cup 2023 due to long-standing issues that plagued his fitness.
The England team arrived in India on Sunday after practicing in a preparatory camp in Abu Dhabi. The visiting side trained in Hyderabad on Monday.
Providing an updated on Stokes’ fitness, McCullum called him a “greyhound”, almost confirming that he will be taking the fielding for the first Test.
“He looks like a greyhound. He’s put the work in, everyone knows his work ethic is phenomenal,” McCullum said as quoted.
“I’ve seen him running around and I think he’s good to go. We’ll obviously make that call as late as what we need to. But he’s put all the work in, and we’ll just have to wait and see,” he added.
