[Saba Sports News] The second ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand kicked off at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 23. New Zealand’s captain, Lockie Ferguson, won the toss and chose to bat first.
During the game, there was a notable incident when Hasan Mahmud ran out Ish Sodhi at the non-striker’s end. The third umpire reviewed the decision and declared Sodhi out. However, in a heartwarming gesture, Bangladesh’s skipper, Litton Das, and Hasan Mahmud called Sodhi back onto the field, and a touching moment followed as Sodhi hugged Hasan.
Despite opting to bat first, New Zealand’s strategy didn’t pan out as expected. Mustafizur Rahman dismissed opener Will Young for a quick eight-ball duck in the third over. Chad Bowes joined opener Finn Allen in hopes of building a substantial partnership. Nevertheless, Rahman struck again in the seventh over, dismissing Allen for a meager 12 runs, while Khaled Ahmed sent Bowes packing in the eighth over.
Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell then worked to stabilize New Zealand’s innings. Nicholls accumulated 49 runs from 61 deliveries, while the wicketkeeper-batsman scored 68 runs from 66 balls. Later in the innings, Ish Sodhi made a noteworthy contribution, scoring 35 runs from 39 balls, including three maximums.
For Bangladesh, Mahedi Hasan stood out as the top bowler, ending with figures of 3/45. Alongside Hasan, Khaled Ahmed also secured a three-wicket haul. Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets, and Hasan Mahmud and Nasum Ahmed each claimed one wicket.
