[Saba Sports News] Kolkata, a prominent cricketing center in India, made an uncommon request to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This cricket-loving city sought to reschedule a crucial World Cup match between Pakistan and England, initially scheduled for November 12th. This appeal stemmed from a clash with Kali Puja, West Bengal’s second-largest festival following Durga Puja.
Despite these intriguing developments, Kolkata’s vigilant law enforcement is gearing up to ensure the safety and security of all participating teams. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal provided reassurance to the cricket community, pledging to adopt innovative approaches to ensure top-notch security for the visiting Pakistan team.
“We have a successful track record in managing such events over the years. So, we will follow the same approach this time. There won’t be any issues. We will devise unique security measures for the Pakistan team, to be finalized as the event draws closer,” emphasized Commissioner Goyal, as reported by India Today.
Commissioner Goyal underscored their unwavering commitment to “effective policing” on match days, ensuring comprehensive coverage of aspects such as law and order, match management, and security. “We are overseeing all aspects, including law and order, match coordination, and security. We are making preparations well in advance,” added the commissioner.
Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host key World Cup matches
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the host for five crucial World Cup matches, including the semi-finals, has engaged in discussions with Kolkata Police. They have received the green light to proceed with hosting four pivotal group-stage matches, featuring cricketing powerhouses like India, England, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
Furthermore, cricket enthusiasts were surprised by another revelation: the warm-up match between Pakistan and New Zealand scheduled for September 29th at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will be played without spectators.
