[Saba Sports News] The Charlotte Hornets have upended mock drafts.
In a surprising move during Wednesday’s NBA Draft, Charlotte selected 18-year-old French forward Tidjane Salaun with the No. 6 overall pick. Despite rumors of a potential trade, the Hornets kept their pick and chose Salaun, who has played professionally for Cholet Basket in France’s LNB Pro A league. At 6-foot-9 and 218 pounds, Salaun boasts impressive 3-and-D skills but is a high-risk, high-reward choice for a team in need of immediate help. Few expected Salaun to go this high, and many casual fans were unfamiliar with him before the draft.
The Hornets passed on Donovan Clingan, Rob Dillingham, Zach Edey, and Matas Buzelis, who were selected shortly after. The team’s new lead executive, hired a few months ago, now has significant pressure riding on the success of this pick.
