[Saba Sports News] As trade speculation swirls around Kevin Durant, its ripple effects are being felt beyond just the teams involved — with Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga emerging as a notable name impacted by the saga.
With rumors building around a potential sign-and-trade involving Kuminga, his market appears to be in a holding pattern. According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, interest in the 22-year-old swingman is currently “clouded” by the uncertainty surrounding Durant’s next move. One team closely monitoring both situations is the Miami Heat, who are reportedly pursuing Durant but may pivot to Kuminga if they fall short.
“The immediate future of Golden State’s Jonathan Kuminga would appear to be even more clouded by Durant uncertainty than DeRozan’s,” Fischer reported. “Trying to forecast sign-and-trade scenarios for the bouncy 22-year-old swingman will thus be difficult to pinpoint until Durant’s situation is settled.”
Fischer added that while the Brooklyn Nets — one of the few teams projected to have significant cap space this summer — aren’t currently pursuing Kuminga, other teams like Miami could re-engage depending on how the Durant sweepstakes unfold.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints previously reported that the Nets, Bulls, and Heat all expressed preliminary interest in Kuminga ahead of free agency. Though Golden State could still strike a new deal with Kuminga, exploring sign-and-trade opportunities may benefit both sides, especially as Kuminga seeks a larger and more consistent role.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype echoed that sentiment, noting that while the Bulls and Heat remain potential trade partners, the Warriors haven’t ruled out keeping Kuminga either.
For now, Kuminga’s next move remains tied to Durant’s. Teams seem to be waiting to see where the future Hall of Famer lands before committing to alternate plans, which puts Kuminga’s fate in limbo — at least for the time being. Once Durant is moved, the Warriors forward could quickly become one of the most sought-after young players on the market.
