[Saba Sports News] Russell Westbrook is sacrificing a significant amount of money to choose his next team.
Keith Smith of Spotrac reported that Westbrook is giving up $1.7 million in his buyout with the Utah Jazz. Recently acquired by the Jazz in a sign-and-trade with the LA Clippers for Kris Dunn, Westbrook is now a free agent after officially clearing waivers on Monday.
While $1.7 million is a fraction of the over $340 million Westbrook has earned in his NBA career, it’s nearly half of the $4 million he opted into for the 2024-25 season.
Westbrook can potentially earn more by signing with a new team, as he’s eligible for $3.3 million on a veteran’s minimum contract due to his over ten years of service. He is expected to join a top NBA contender next season.
