[Saba Sports News] Suryakumar Yadav’s ODI form is a bit of a concern for every Indian cricket team stakeholder.
However, the swashbuckling batter finally added some runs under his belt in the first ODI of the series against Australia held in Mohali on Friday. While chasing the target of 277 runs, Suryakumar brought up his third ODI fifty, scoring 50 off 49 with the help of five fours and one six.
Notably, in the last India versus Australia ODI series held in March 2023, Suryakumar recorded three back-to-back ducks in consecutive innings.
Suryakumar, after the match, interacted with the official broadcasters Sports 18 and opened up on his knock, saying, “I was dreaming of this type of innings when I started playing this format. I was trying to bat deep and finish the game. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do it today, but I’m very happy with the result.”
The 33-year-old further informed that he worked on his mistakes and tried to overcome the problem that had been pushing him down in the 50-over format.
“I’d been wondering what had been happening for me in this format, the teams and bowlers were the same. I went back and reflected and realized I was probably rushing things a bit so I decided to play slower and take it deep. I think it’s the first time I haven’t played a sweep. This has come from the Chandu Pandit school of arts (on his straight drives),” he added.
The second ODI of the series is scheduled on September 24 at Holkar Stadium, Indore and Suryakumar would want to pile up on the momentum he gained while batting on Friday night.
