[Saba Sports News] The Indonesian government plans to implement a policy for more efficient use of funds, affecting various sports projects, with some athletes even facing repatriation. The Ministry of Youth and Sports is among those affected. In light of this situation, Taufik Hidayat, the first vice president of the Indonesian Badminton Association and also the Minister of Youth and Sports, gave an interview at the national training center of the Indonesian Badminton Association in Cibinong on February 19, 2025, responding to the development trend of badminton. Taufik stated that all projects must consider efficient use of funds; however, the rumors that badminton projects would be canceled are absolutely impossible. Indonesian badminton will not stagnate due to funding issues, but the Indonesian Badminton Association will cut funds based on different priorities. In response, some fans expressed that Taufik’s viewpoint is well-founded because badminton is one of Indonesia’s key sports to develop. Currently, Indonesia has only 4-5 sports projects likely to win medals at the Olympics, and badminton is one of them. Therefore, regardless of how funding efficiency is adjusted, badminton must continue to be promoted.
