[Saba Sports News] The Indian Premier League 2024 has seen an unprecedented level of fan enthusiasm, with supporters going to extremes to showcase their passion, from trolling players at the stadium to engaging in online banter. However, a tragic incident in Kolhapur’s Hanmantwadi Area has shocked everyone, as a fan altercation over an IPL match led to the death of a 63-year-old individual.
The victim, hailing from Bandupant Tibile, was a Chennai Super Kings fan who expressed joy over Rohit Sharma’s wicket during a match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad. This led fans of the opposing team to attack him with a stick, resulting in severe injuries. The incident occurred in Hanmantwadi, Karveer Taluka, Kolhapur district, on Wednesday night.
Fan rivalries have escalated to alarming levels, with incidents like booing Hardik Pandya at the Wankhede Stadium and displaying derogatory placards after his trade to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin condemned such behavior, emphasizing the need for restraint among fans and reminding them that players represent the nation.
Ashwin expressed his views on his YouTube channel, questioning the need for booing players and highlighting the unity within the Indian cricket team, where players of different backgrounds have played under various captains over the years. He urged fans to appreciate the sport without resorting to hostility or negativity.
