With his hair
reaching his shoulders, MS Dhoni revisits the location of his historic debut
innings from back in 2005.
Since CSK’s batting lineup is so strong and deep, Dhoni hasn’t been required to
bat. The top-heavy Capitals don’t have as much batting depth, despite the fact
that David Warner and Rishabh Pant have both produced strong returns. With
Ishant Sharma out with an injury and Anrich Nortje and Jhye Richardson both
attempting a recovery, their bowling attack is also in poor form. In addition,
Shai Hope was out from their most recent game due to injury.
The Capitals will
also need to adapt to the weather in Visakhapatnam, where they will play
back-to-back games against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 3 and CSK on March
31. According to their co-owner Parth Jindal, the Capitals chose Visakhapatnam
to play their first two home games in order to give the Delhi venue time to
recuperate. The Capitals have suffered losses in three of their five IPL games
played in Visakhapatnam, including a setback to CSK in the 2019 IPL second
qualifier.
The Capitals lost five straight games to start the 2023 Indian Premier League
and quickly reached the end of their road. They have already lost their first
two, so they will be looking to make up for it and get started right away on
Sunday.
Ricky Ponting, the
head coach of the Capitals, said that Prithvi Shaw is “pushing for
selection”. In order to counter CSK’s left-handers, he also requested that
Lalit Yadav, an offspin bowling all-rounder, be added to the squad. Jhye
Richardson, the fast Australian, is also up for selection. Abishek Porel could
bat first for the Capitals and be replaced as an Impact Player in the second
inning by Lalit if they choose to bat first as a specialty batter. If the
Capitals bowl first, it might be the other way around.
CSK have found a way to fit both Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman into
their XI or XII. One of them should make way for Dube as an Impact Player when
they bat.
