[Saba Sports News] On October 3, Ireland Badminton Association announced a program called BadminTEEN, aimed at encouraging girls to actively participate in competitions and establish their own badminton clubs, allowing them to continue engaging in sports after entering secondary school. The program will kick off at St. Mary’s Secondary School in County Cork and will then be promoted in selected pilot schools nationwide. By providing students with opportunities to learn badminton from qualified coaches and participate in inter-school competitions, students will also receive support needed to start and manage their own school clubs. Enda Lynch, CEO of Ireland Badminton Association, stated that the initiative aims to create a fun and supportive environment where girls can challenge themselves, discover new talents, and gain confidence. Lynch believes this program will have a lasting impact on girls’ lives, both on and off the court. Data shows that 94% of girls in Ireland participate in sports during primary school, but this number drops to 65% once they enter secondary school. Fans have expressed that the BadminTEEN program provides young female students with a fun and accessible way to stay active, build friendships, and develop leadership skills.
