[Saba Sports News] A controversial view has sparked discussion ahead of the Nürburgring 24 Hours: four-time F1 champion Max Verstappen is being labeled the weakest link in his crew. The claim comes from commentator Peter Snowden, who noted during the Nürburgring endurance series that although Verstappen’s performance in GT3 cars has already been impressive, his relative lack of experience with the very different demands of a 24-hour race could become a liability. Looking at his record, Verstappen’s crossover results have been excellent. He won on his GT3 debut driving a Ferrari 296 GT3 and later showed strong competitiveness in a Mercedes-AMG GT3. However, ultra-long events like the Nürburgring 24 Hours place higher demands on drivers for night driving, wet-weather performance, and managing stamina and race rhythm. By contrast, his teammates are very experienced and have deep endurance racing backgrounds. Under certain conditions, Verstappen could potentially become the weak link.
The editor thinks that 24-hour endurance racing is fundamentally different from F1 or shorter four-hour events, and any newcomer needs time to adapt. But given Verstappen’s past racing résumé and natural talent, labeling him the team’s weakness is clearly premature.
