[Saba Sports News] Jalen Williams looked like anything but an All-Star on Thursday night.
The Oklahoma City Thunder forward turned in a rough Game 6 performance against the Denver Nuggets, finishing with just six points — his lowest output of the season — on a brutal 3-of-16 shooting night (0-of-4 from three).
The second-round playoff game at Ball Arena saw Williams log a team-high 38 minutes but post a -8 plus-minus and blow a wide-open dunk in the fourth quarter with just over 5:30 remaining, effectively sealing OKC’s fate in the 119-107 loss.
Social media users wasted no time piling on Williams, roasting him with memes and jokes for disappearing when it mattered most.
The 24-year-old was a first-time All-Star this season, averaging 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists, but he has struggled throughout the series. Through six games against Denver, Williams is shooting just 33.7% from the field (32-of-95) and had scored in double figures in every game this season — regular season and playoffs — until Thursday’s collapse.
The Thunder now head into a do-or-die Game 7 on Sunday, and they’ll need Williams to snap out of his slump. With so much defensive focus on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams has to capitalize on the space and mismatches that result — something he’s failed to do consistently in this series.
Still, he wasn’t the only reason OKC couldn’t close it out in Game 6, with a questionable decision by head coach Mark Daigneault also factoring into the loss.
