[Saba Sports New]Jayson Tatum had Celtics fans holding their breath Monday night after suffering a scary-looking ankle injury during Boston’s 113–95 win over the Sacramento Kings.
The incident happened in the third quarter when Tatum landed awkwardly on Domantas Sabonis’ foot following a made three-pointer. Sabonis was hit with a flagrant foul for taking up Tatum’s landing space. Tatum stayed in to shoot his free throws—making one—before heading straight to the locker room. He did not return.
While Tatum didn’t speak to reporters postgame, The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach noted that the star forward wasn’t wearing a boot in the locker room, a positive sign that the injury may not be serious.
Tatum finished with 25 points in the win, continuing a strong season in which he’s averaging 27.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. With Boston sitting at 53–19 and aiming for a title repeat, avoiding a long-term injury to their franchise player is a huge relief.
