[Saba Sports News] Jayson Tatum reflected on the personal impact of the Boston Celtics’ 2024 NBA Championship win after enduring seven seasons of criticism from fans for not sealing the deal.
“It’s still unreal. Seeing pictures and videos of that moment, people congratulating me—it’s like, man, we really did it. People always said, ‘He’s gotten so close, but can he do it?’ All those near misses, and then finally overcoming that? The feeling is unmatched.”
Tatum averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in the regular season, earning a spot on the All-NBA First Team and leading the Celtics to a dominant 82-game run. In the Playoffs, he averaged 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists, leading the Celtics in scoring, although teammate Jaylen Brown outshone him to win both the Eastern Conference and Finals MVP.
Currently, Tatum is representing Team USA at Paris 2024. Despite his key role in the Tokyo 2020 Gold medal triumph, he has seen limited action, being benched for the opener against Serbia and averaging just seven minutes in wins over South Sudan and Puerto Rico.
