[Saba Sports News] LeBron James is hearing some trash talk from a player half his age this week.
Utah Jazz rookie Cody Williams, in an interview with FOX News Digital, said he isn’t scared to face the Los Angeles Lakers star next year.
“I’m in the NBA for a reason,” said Williams, the No. 10 pick in this year’s draft. “[LeBron] still has to guard me, too. I’m not going to be starstruck. I’ll respect him, but I’ll go at him and let him know I belong here.”
Williams, a 6-foot-8 small forward from the University of Colorado, is the younger brother of Oklahoma City Thunder phenom Jalen Williams. He made the Pac-12 All-Freshman team last year, averaging 16.8 points per game on 55.2 percent shooting and 41.5 percent from three.
While his comments might seem boastful, it’s the right mindset for Williams to have. He can’t be afraid of anyone on the court, including the nearly 40-year-old James. However, his comments could come back to bite him next season, even as some of James’ Olympic teammates acknowledge he has lost a step.
