Jhye Richardson of the Perth Scorchers will miss the
rest of the BBL and is highly unlikely to play in the ODI series against the
West Indies the following month.
Following the Scorchers’ game against the Brisbane
Heat at the Gabba, Richardson complained of pain. Further imaging revealed the
extent of the injury.
He had not been at his best this season with six
wickets and 40.33 in matches with an economy rate 9.18 but had gained a recall
to the Australia squad for the first time since 2022 for the three ODIs against
West Indies.
Throughout his career, Richardson has dealt with a
number of injuries, and he still struggles to throw in the outfield due to
shoulder dislocations that need surgery. Delhi Capitals selected him at the
most recent IPL auction.
In order to have two opportunities to get to the
final, the Scorchers are vying for second place in the BBL table. After
defeating the Scorchers earlier in the week, Heat was granted the privilege of
hosting the Qualifier final.
On February 2, the ODI series against the West Indies
begins in Melbourne.
