[Saba Sports News] Jimmy Butler is entering the final year of his contract with the Miami Heat and intends to keep it that way.
Earlier in the offseason, there were rumors that Butler was seeking a max contract extension from the Heat. However, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Butler now plans to play out his current contract. Charania also noted Butler’s strong affinity for Miami and his desire to stay with the Heat, indicating that the six-time All-Star has no intention of requesting a trade.
Butler is set to earn $48.8 million next season and has a $52.4 million player option for 2025-26. By not signing an extension, he positions himself to become a free agent in a year.
While other teams might inquire about trading for Butler, the Heat have shown no interest in moving the 34-year-old. If Butler declines his player option next year, he could become a free agent, allowing the Heat (or a potential trade team) to offer him a four-year deal worth a projected $243 million, while other teams could offer a three-year, $171 million contract.
Last season, Butler averaged 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 60 games but missed the postseason due to an MCL sprain. Despite some recent tension with Heat president Pat Riley, it appears Butler and the Heat will continue their partnership for now.
