The Sixers have been off to a disastrous start, entering Wednesday’s play with a 3-13 record—far from the championship contention many expected. In an effort to address their struggles, the team held a meeting last week where Maxey reportedly called out Embiid for frequently being late.
According to ESPN, Embiid responded positively to the criticism, even vowing to improve when speaking to the media. His frustration was directed not at Maxey, but at whoever leaked the meeting’s details to the press.
Health has been a significant issue for the Sixers this season. Embiid has played in just four games, Paul George in eight, and Maxey in ten, with all three sidelined by injuries ranging from knee problems (Embiid and George) to a hamstring issue (Maxey).
If the Sixers’ stars don’t recover soon and start contributing consistently, the team’s season could end in bitter disappointment. For now, they’re fortunate that much of the Eastern Conference is also struggling to find its footing.
